GEDA Announces Jim Melvin selected as the 2008 Stanley Frank Award winner
March 14, 2008 (Greensboro, NC) Greensboro Economic Development Alliance is pleased to announce that Mr. E.S. (Jim) Melvin has been selected as the 2008 Stanley Frank Award winner.  The Stanley Frank Award is given annually to a member of the community in recognition and appreciation for many years of dedicated, inspirational and faithful service in building a better Greensboro and Guilford County and for outstanding achievements in support of the community and in service to his or her fellow man.  Melvin is the President and CEO of the Joseph M. Bryan Foundation of Greater Greensboro, Inc.

Melvin is a lifelong Greensboro citizen and community servant.  Professionally, he is currently working in philanthropy for The Joseph M. Bryan Foundation of Greater Greensboro, Inc. after a long career in the banking industry.  He is known for the wealth of his state and local service as Mayor and member of the Greensboro City Council, as President of the NC League of Municipalities, on the Board of the NC Institute of Politics, Inc., as a Managing Partner of the Greensboro Grasshoppers, and on various boards at UNCG, UNC Chapel Hill, and Wake Forest University, among many others.  Currently, he serves on the operating group of Action Greensboro.   

“Jim’s contribution to Greensboro just cannot be measured,” commented Dan Lynch, President of Greensboro Economic Development Alliance.  “There are few community servants that have the level of down-to-earth insight into critical issues and loyalty to Greensboro that Jim has displayed.  He truly is a tireless Greensboro advocate and this award is well deserved.” 

The award was presented at the annual breakfast for Greensboro Economic Development Alliance investors on March 4, 2008 at the O’Henry Hotel.

A member of the Greensboro Partnership, Greensboro Economic Development Alliance’s mission is to facilitate the creation of high quality jobs, attract new capital investment, retain and expand existing businesses, improve per capita income and generally improve the quality of life in Greensboro and Guilford County.  Most recently, Greensboro Economic Development Alliance announced that O’Reilly Automotive would be opening its first East Coast distribution facility in Greensboro bringing 360 new jobs and almost $42 million in new capital investment.
